en.Wedoany.com Reported - A new coalition facilitated by the Global Maritime Forum and the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) plans to establish a green shipping corridor between the Port of Açu in Brazil and the Port of Antwerp-Bruges in Belgium.

Coalition members include HIF Global, Fuella, NYK Line, Höegh Autoliners, and Wallenius Wilhelmsen. The parties will assess infrastructure, vessels, and business models to develop a roadmap for transporting zero-carbon fuels produced at the Port of Açu, such as e-ammonia or e-methanol, with the transport process also using the same type of zero or near-zero emission fuels.

The coalition is based on a pre-feasibility study completed by RMI and the Global Maritime Forum in November 2025. The study indicates that Brazil's policies supporting green hydrogen production, a predominantly renewable energy grid, abundant renewable energy resources, and relatively low capital costs make e-fuels produced at the Port of Açu cost-competitive in estimated terms.

A feasibility analysis report is expected to be released by the end of the year, with the coalition holding regular meetings in the interim. Green shipping corridors, as dedicated trade routes, aim to catalyze the commercialization of zero-emission shipping through coordinated public and private sector actions. These routes are seen as key to achieving the shipping industry's goal of making zero-emission fuels account for 5% of all fuel consumption by 2030.

Although the number of green corridors worldwide is rapidly increasing and a few projects have entered the implementation phase, the latest edition of the "Annual Progress Report on Green Shipping Corridors" states that a "wall of feasibility" caused by the cost gap between conventional and zero-emission fuels is hindering progress.
