en.Wedoany.com Reported - UK transport company ET Morris & Sons has completed the first transport of low-carbon steel using a Volvo FM Electric 4x2 electric tractor unit, produced by Swedish Steel Group (SSAB) as part of its zero-tailpipe emission deliveries. The vehicle was supplied by dealer group Crossroads Truck & Bus, and the steel was transported from TSG Terminal at the Port of Hull to a customer site in Brighouse, West Yorkshire, covering a round trip of 160 miles.

Hull-based transport company ET Morris & Sons, which operates a fleet of 25 Volvo vehicles, stated that this transport is part of its exploration into decarbonizing operations. Company owner Jeremy Morris said the electric truck completed the task without any difficulty, and the driver was satisfied with the experience. As technology advances further, the company will explore this direction more deeply in the future.

This delivery also highlights Volvo Trucks' use of SSAB's low-carbon steel in the production of its heavy-duty electric trucks. Volvo stated that it is the first truck manufacturer to incorporate this material, called SSAB Zero, into mass production. This steel is made from recycled materials and produced using fossil-free electricity and biogas. SSAB claims that compared to traditional steel, this material can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 80%.

Currently, Volvo Trucks primarily uses this low-carbon steel in the frame rails of its electric trucks. The manufacturer said it plans to expand the use of the material as supply increases. This move is part of Volvo Trucks' broader goal to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in its supply chain by 2040.
