en.Wedoany.com Reported - Legacy Minerals (ASX:LGM) has initiated a diamond drilling program at the Emu copper-gold prospect within the Mt Carrington project in northern New South Wales.
This eight-hole drilling program covers 4,000 meters and represents the first modern drilling test of the Emu porphyry-epithermal target, which was last drilled 50 years ago.
According to Legacy Minerals, the Emu porphyry core and the Emu alteration halo SE are the initial drilling targets in this program, with each hole permitted to a depth of 500 meters.
CEO and Managing Director Christopher Byrne stated that this marks a milestone for the Emu prospect.
"Copper is the primary target at Emu, which historically was one of the largest copper mines in the Mt Carrington region," Byrne said.
"Although known for its gold and silver resources, historical drilling results at the Mt Carrington prospect highlight the significant untested copper potential within the broader project, with historical intercepts including 18.9 meters at 5.8% copper and 10.1 meters at 7.26% copper."
"This drilling is part of the company's dual strategy of discovery and development, with both Emu and Mascotte providing clear opportunities to grow existing mineral resources through new discoveries."
The company stated that the drill rig is in place, and drilling is expected to be progressively completed over the next three months, with plans for further follow-up work and drilling.
The company added that the Emu prospect is one of three "high-priority" regional targets within the Mt Carrington project, and along with Mascotte, offers potential for expanding mineral resources through new discoveries.
Legacy Minerals is an exploration company focused on gold, silver, copper, and base metal projects in New South Wales, Australia.
