News that Blue Owl is seeking to cash out from some of Stack Infrastructure's assets first emerged last month.

Stack Infrastructure was founded in 2019 by investment firm IPI Partners, with its underlying assets originating from Infomart and T5. IPI Partners itself is a joint venture between investment management company Iconiq Capital and private equity firm Iron Point Partners, and was acquired by Blue Owl Capital in 2024. The company first announced plans to expand into the Asia-Pacific region in 2021. According to Stack's website, it operates multiple data centers in the region: one in Malaysia (216MW), two in Japan (114MW), and three in Australia (792MW). Stack had previously planned projects in South Korea, but their status is currently unclear. The company entered the Australian market in 2022 after taking over three development projects from local developer Hickory. Blue Owl has invested heavily amid the artificial intelligence boom, funding projects such as the Stargate Abilene data center in Texas and Meta's upcoming campus in Louisiana.
