en.Wedoany.com Reported - New Energy Transport (NET) has secured AUD 5 million in initial funding to accelerate the electrification of Australia's road freight sector, with the first fleet of electric trucks expected to be operational by the end of 2026.

NET adopts a modular approach to road freight electrification, aiming to provide reliable, cost-effective, and fully electric road freight services for large transport buyers. According to the plan, the company will invest in 20 new electric tractor units and deploy six mobile ultra-fast charging units along heavy-duty road freight corridors in New South Wales.
This equity financing round is supported by institutional investor Jekara Group and facilitated by net-zero consultancy Pollination. NET expects to attract further investment as the company scales up.
NET Co-CEO Daniel Bleakley stated that the company has seen a surge in demand from some of Australia's largest transport buyers, and this funding will enable it to meet that demand by providing reliable electric road freight services before the end of this year. He noted that the modular mobile charging units the company has chosen are not fixed installations but are mounted on frames, allowing them to be connected to the grid and become commercially operational within weeks. This technical solution means the charging units can be redeployed to new locations in the future to serve other corridors, including remote areas of Australia.
Bleakley pointed out that this flexibility will support the company's plan to build Australia's largest heavy-duty electric truck depot and connect the East Coast road freight corridor within the next five years. NET is building Australia's first vertically integrated electric freight platform, centered on the country's largest planned heavy-duty electric truck depot in Wilton, New South Wales. The project was recently selected as a national priority project under the federal government's "Investor Ready" program.
The Wilton depot will connect freight corridors between Sydney, Wollongong, Newcastle, and Canberra. It is scheduled to become operational by the end of 2027, with an initial capacity of 50 trucks, gradually expanding to 200. NET is also advancing a plan to establish a network of electric road freight depots connecting Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, and Brisbane by 2031.
This accelerated plan enables NET to build commercial operations and performance data to inform subsequent expansion. The modular mobile chargers can be operational within 16 weeks, and the 20 electric trucks can provide 10,000 kilometers of fully loaded line-haul freight capacity per day, saving 2.5 million liters of diesel annually. This modular charging approach helps address Australia's current fuel security challenges while expanding the operational range of electric trucks in remote areas.
