en.Wedoany.com Reported - Two Indonesian digital infrastructure operators have respectively implemented technical upgrades to their submarine cable systems, aiming to enhance data transmission capacity within the Indonesian archipelago and with overseas networks, with Singapore and Batam serving as key connection nodes.

Matrix NAP Info and Biznet upgrade Indonesian submarine cable network using Ciena technology, boosting capacity and supporting AI-era connectivity

The Matrix Cable System is jointly operated by Matrix Networks and NAP Info Lintas Nusa. Both parties have activated the Ciena GeoMesh Extreme solution, powered by WaveLogic 6 Extreme chips, on the Batam-to-Jakarta segment of the cable. The two companies revealed that this 1,055-kilometer link can now achieve a transmission rate of 1 terabit per second (Tb/s) per wavelength. This means that, without laying new cables, the overall data-carrying capacity of the submarine cable system has been significantly enhanced. The Matrix Cable System connects Indonesia to global internet and cloud computing hubs via Singapore, and the Batam-Jakarta segment is part of this international route.

Ciena's certified channel partner Terrabit Networks undertook the deployment, while Ciena Services handled the full lifecycle process, from pre-deployment engineering planning to network construction and subsequent lifecycle management.

Omar Syarif Nasution, Director of Matrix NAP Info, stated that achieving 1 Tb/s per wavelength on the Batam-Jakarta submarine segment signifies more than just a capacity increase; it reflects Matrix NAP Info's strategic positioning in the global network interconnection landscape. He further noted that this deployment will enable customers to obtain the high-bandwidth capabilities required in the era of artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing.

Another operator, Biznet, has also deployed Ciena's WaveLogic 5 Extreme technology on the international link of its Biznet Nusantara Cable System-1. This submarine cable system connects Java, Sumatra, and Bangka islands. The upgrade aims to support 400G-level high-speed services and increase transmission capacity between local and international networks. Biznet stated that this move also increases the capacity of the Batam-to-Singapore segment, which carries international gateway traffic and serves as a key channel for accessing global services. Previously, Biznet and Ciena have successfully collaborated in Java, Bali, Sumatra, Batam, Bangka, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Flores islands.
