en.Wedoany.com Reported - INTEC Energy Solutions has secured a lead engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract from Lightsource bp for the Lower Wonga Solar Farm and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in the Gympie region of Queensland, Australia.

The project is planned to combine approximately 380 megawatts peak (MWp) of solar generation capacity with 843 megawatt-hours (MWh) of battery energy storage, aiming to deliver flexible and reliable renewable energy to Australia's National Electricity Market. The annual electricity generation is expected to meet the needs of approximately 126,000 households. The integrated BESS will provide approximately three hours of storage capacity to support grid stability and respond to evolving energy demand patterns. Spanning 600 hectares, the project is one of the significant hybrid solar and storage projects currently advancing in Australia.

INTEC Energy Solutions will be responsible for the full EPC scope of the project and will collaborate with Gotion High-Tech Australia. Gotion High-Tech is a global battery technology manufacturer specializing in energy storage solutions and lithium-ion battery systems for utility-scale renewable energy projects.

Construction of the project has commenced and is expected to be completed by 2028. The construction phase is projected to create over 400 jobs.

Phil Wood, Regional Manager for Australia and New Zealand at INTEC, stated: "Lower Wonga represents another significant milestone in INTEC's long-term growth strategy in Australia and the broader Asia-Pacific region. As energy markets continue to evolve, integrated solar and battery storage projects will play an increasingly important role in providing reliable, scalable, and cost-effective renewable energy infrastructure to meet the transmission and storage needs of future energy networks. We are proud to continue supporting Lightsource bp and to contribute our international EPC expertise to one of Australia's most significant hybrid renewable energy projects. At INTEC, we combine global technical capabilities with strong local project delivery. Lower Wonga further solidifies our position as a trusted partner for large-scale renewable energy and storage infrastructure in the region."

INTEC has been active in the Gympie region since 2025 through the delivery of the Woolooga BESS project for Lightsource bp. Construction of the Woolooga BESS project began in March 2025 and is currently in its final commissioning phase. This project further enhances INTEC's local project delivery capabilities, regional supply chain partnerships, and long-term presence in Queensland.
