en.Wedoany.com Reported - AES Andes has signed an extension agreement for a renewable energy supply contract with Chilean retail group Cencosud, providing up to 560 GWh annually for the next 11 years, valid until March 2037. The agreement will power over 80% of Cencosud's stores and outlets in Chile, as well as 100% of its Cenco Malls.

According to AES Andes, the purchased energy will supply more than 200 stores and assets of Cencosud across Chile, from Arica to Puerto Montt, including Cenco Costanera in Santiago. The contract will also cover the group's future projects, including new stores, shopping centers, and facilities transitioning to the free customer regime.

Cencosud is a Chilean multi-channel retail group with brands including Jumbo, Santa Isabel, Easy, Paris, and Cenco Malls (depending on the country), operating in supermarkets, department stores, home improvement, shopping centers, and financial services. The company operates in Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Colombia, and the United States, with a commercial office in China and a technology center in Uruguay.

The signing ceremony was held at AES Andes' Remote Operations and Control Center (ROCC), attended by Chilean Energy Minister Ximena Rincón, AES Andes CEO Javier Dib, and Cenco Malls CEO Sebastián Bellocchio.

The partnership between AES Andes and Cencosud began in 2017 with an initial six-year supply contract. This renewal expands the existing agreement and incorporates new supply points related to facilities that have transitioned to the free customer regime.

AES Andes' renewable energy assets operating in Chile include hydropower, wind power, photovoltaic power generation, and battery energy storage systems, with 771 MW of hydropower, 435 MW of wind power, 1,009 MW of solar PV, and 768 MW of energy storage systems.

AES Andes (formerly AES Gener) has previously signed other renewable energy power purchase agreements (PPAs), including a 2022 agreement with Microsoft Chile to power the Quilicura data center using solar and wind energy; a long-term contract with Sierra Gorda SCM to meet 100% of the mining company's electricity demand with renewables and batteries starting in 2023; and a PPA with Teck Quebrada Blanca for its QB2 project, effective from January 2022 through October 2042.
