en.Wedoany.com Reported - European Energy's 25MW/65MWh battery energy storage system in Anykščiai, Lithuania, is about to commence operations.

European Energy to Launch BESS in the Baltic Region

The storage facility has been connected to the Lithuanian power grid and integrated with a co-located 78.5MW solar park. European Energy stated that this project is one of Lithuania's first hybrid renewable energy facilities combining large-scale solar power with battery storage, expected to enhance grid flexibility and support balancing services.

Tadeušas Konkovskis, Vice President and Head of the Baltic region at European Energy, noted that the project team worked closely with Litgrid, the Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator. As one of the first projects of its kind in the country, the process of completing all testing procedures and ensuring a smooth grid connection was critical.

The Anykščiai solar park is one of the largest in the Baltic region and the first in Lithuania to participate in the system services market. Thorvald Spanggaard, Executive Vice President and Head of Project Development at European Energy, stated that as Lithuania's renewable energy installed capacity continues to grow, hybrid solutions are becoming increasingly important. Energy storage helps manage generation fluctuations and supports the stable operation of the power system.

The facility is expected to begin operations by the end of this month. European Energy operates approximately 400MW of renewable energy capacity in Lithuania and is developing an additional 800MW portfolio of solar, wind, and energy storage projects. Additionally, the company is advancing a second battery project in Telšiai, with a planned capacity of 12MW/50MWh, scheduled for grid connection in December 2026.
