en.Wedoany.com Reported - A delegation of Rosatom's leadership, headed by Director General Alexey Likhachev, inspected the construction site of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (built by Rosatom in Turkey). During the inspection, Likhachev reviewed the progress of commissioning works for Unit 1. Currently, all civil engineering works for this unit have been fully completed, and active preparations are underway for the cold and hot testing of the reactor plant.

During the site tour, Alexey Likhachev visited the central hall of the reactor building of Unit 1 and was briefed on the successful loading of dummy fuel assemblies into the reactor and the completion of reactor assembly works. After loading the dummy core, specialists completed the installation of the protective tube unit and the reactor upper unit, thereby finishing one of the most important stages in preparing the reactor plant for cold and hot testing (CHT).

Likhachev stated: "We confirm that the civil engineering works have been completed. Last night, the cold hydraulic tests of the reactor were launched, and this work will be completed within a few weeks. Only a few weeks remain before the start of commissioning operations. After all work is finished, we will conduct a review and make adjustments for the final stage. This thrilling moment is like the final 100-meter sprint in a 42-kilometer marathon. This is the final sprint phase, requiring all efforts to be mobilized, and a very important part of this sprint is the deployment of operational personnel. The staffing for Unit 1 is 1,930 people, of whom over 40% are Turkish citizens. We are proud that they are all graduates of our country's universities and are currently undergoing training and internships at Russian simulators and nuclear power plants."

Regarding the cold and hot testing phase of the reactor plant: Cold and hot testing is a critical stage of commissioning operations. In the "cold" phase, specialists will conduct hydraulic tests to verify the tightness and strength of the reactor plant components; perform circulation flushing of the primary and secondary circuits; adjust the water chemistry regime; and check whether the thermohydraulic, strength, vibration, and dynamic characteristics of the reactor plant and primary circuit equipment meet design values.

The "hot" testing phase will verify the reliability of the reactor plant equipment and systems under operating conditions. During this sub-phase, specialists will test the operation of four main circulation pump units at temperatures not lower than +260°C; perform steam blowdown of the main steam pipelines; conduct inspection operations of the safety systems; and check the control and protection systems of the reactor plant.

The Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant is the first nuclear power plant under construction in the Republic of Turkey. The project consists of four power units, each equipped with a Russian-designed Generation III+ VVER reactor with a capacity of 1,200 MW. The construction of the Akkuyu NPP is the first project in the global nuclear energy sector implemented under the "Build-Own-Operate" organizational and economic model.
