en.Wedoany.com Reported - Namibia has launched the $2 million Ondangwa Digital Technology Hub, a facility aimed at accelerating digital transformation, research, and skills training. Located in northern Namibia, the hub will serve as a comprehensive digital center for education, innovation, conferences, and community activities.

The Rössing Foundation, a corporate social investment trust, invested N$37 million (approximately $2.23 million) in the project to transform the existing building into a modern digital center. Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah inaugurated the facility on Wednesday, also unveiling a science exhibition hall named in her honor.

Nandi-Ndaitwah stated that the facility reflects the government's commitment to making education, science, technology, and innovation key drivers of Namibia's development, while equipping young people with skills to participate in the digital economy. "A nation's prosperity depends on whether it can provide its youth with the skills, tools, and opportunities needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world," she said. She emphasized that Namibia cannot merely be a consumer of technologies developed by other countries but must cultivate a new generation of innovators, creators, and problem solvers to drive industrialization and economic transformation.

At the inauguration ceremony, the Foundation for the Development of Science and Technology in China donated 73 interactive science exhibition models, designed to simplify complex scientific concepts and enhance the learning experience for students and visitors. Nandi-Ndaitwah described the donation as a valuable contribution to science education and youth knowledge advancement in Namibia.

The facility was originally established in 1993 as the Rössing Foundation Centre before being renovated and renamed. The renovation, including the Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah Science Exhibition Hall, began in January this year. Namibia is expanding its digital infrastructure and innovation ecosystem in line with the National Digital Strategy (2025–2029).
