RWE Activates New Offshore Wind Control Center in Germany

The new facility was officially put into operation on June 25. It serves as the core operational hub within RWE's growing offshore wind portfolio and can accommodate approximately 50 employees. RWE stated that the control center will initially oversee five offshore wind farms and is expected to play a key role in the operation of subsequent projects.
The two-story building covers a total area of approximately 1,120 square meters and houses offices, meeting rooms, and a dedicated control room. Employee amenities include rest areas, a winter garden, and a fitness room. The site also features bicycle parking, approximately 50 car parking spaces, and electric vehicle charging stations. According to RWE, the building was constructed to high sustainability standards, using recycled materials and incorporating energy-efficient designs and water-saving features; rooftop solar panels can meet part of the facility's electricity demand.
The control center will also serve as the project office for RWE's 1.6-gigawatt Nordseecluster offshore wind project. This project is currently under construction north of the island of Juist and, once operational, is expected to generate enough renewable electricity to meet the needs of approximately 1.6 million households. RWE currently operates 18 offshore wind farms in Germany and globally, and stated that it will continue to expand its offshore wind business. The new facility in Jemgum is part of its long-term operational infrastructure layout.
