en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) of South Korea announced on the 25th the establishment of the "Hyper-Intelligent Network Technology (HINT) Forum," aimed at building a high-speed network ecosystem required for the era of artificial intelligence, developing technologies to efficiently connect data centers, and promoting related standardization and industrial cooperation.

With the proliferation of large-scale generative AI services, the sharing of massive computing resources and real-time data transmission between AI data centers are becoming increasingly important. Next-generation network technologies capable of supporting high-speed, low-latency, and high-capacity connections are regarded as key infrastructure for the AI era. The HINT Forum aims to study interconnection technologies across various domains, including AI data center networks, core sections of national communication networks, access and metropolitan area networks, as well as industrial convergence networks required in fields such as smart factories and autonomous driving, and to promote domestic and international standardization activities.
The research team is developing high-speed, low-latency, lossless, high-bandwidth packet optical transport network technologies for AI data centers; an open transport network architecture operating system based on AI workloads; and technologies for building and standardizing the AI data center network ecosystem to enhance national AI infrastructure competitiveness. ETRI is also participating in the Ministry of Science and ICT's leading project on data center network infrastructure technology, conducting research on inter-data center transmission technology for horizontally scaling AI resources, intra-data center scaling technology based on optical networks, and building verification environments and proof-of-concept for data center infrastructure equipment.
At the HINT Forum inaugural meeting and seminar held from the 11th to the 12th at Kunsan Resort in Gyeonggi Province, approximately 90 experts from industry, academia, and research institutes attended. The forum was officially launched, and the AI data center network business collaboration body held its inaugural meeting. Participants shared trends in AI data center network technology, R&D project status, and standardization strategies, and discussed ways to expand industry-academia-research cooperation. Additionally, a plaque ceremony was held for the "Data Center Network Professional Research Center" designated by the Ministry of Science and ICT, targeting institutions participating in the leading project on data center network infrastructure technology.
