en.Wedoany.com Reported - Russia's Vorkuta Coal Company plans to build a coal chemical cluster based on its coal mine resources, with transportation linkage to the Northern Sea Route. The project's implementation period is from 2027 to 2043, with an estimated total investment of about 200 billion rubles. It includes the construction of production lines with an annual capacity of up to 1.05 million tons of urea and 616,000 tons of porous ammonium nitrate.
The project was a key topic of discussion last week during a meeting between the Head of the Komi Republic, Rostislav Goldstein, and the Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic, Alexei Chekunkov. During the talks, Goldstein proposed providing concessional financing through the Russian Export-Import Bank (VEB) and suggested abolishing the natural gas excise tax for Arctic enterprises. Minister Chekunkov expressed support for these initiatives.
Approximately 80% of the economic structure of the Vorkuta region depends on coal mining, making industrial transformation an urgent need. The planned coal chemical cluster project, combined with the logistics corridor of the Northern Sea Route, is expected to create new economic growth points for the area. Related discussions also involve infrastructure support and policy backing, with further developments to be observed.
