en.Wedoany.com Reported - ReOrbit has launched a new research and development initiative called OrbitCloud, aimed at building a space-based edge computing network, with initial funding of €4.6 million (approximately $5.3 million) from Business Finland.

The company describes OrbitCloud as a private satellite network that provides direct-to-device connectivity for drones and mobile devices, combined with orbital artificial intelligence inference for rapid intelligence gathering. The total value of the initiative is expected to exceed €40 million (approximately $46 million).
The architecture described by ReOrbit integrates direct-to-device connectivity with orbital AI and inter-satellite links to deliver real-time intelligence to drones and mobile devices. ReOrbit CEO and founder Sethu Saveda Suvanam stated that this move comes amid growing demand for sovereign and secure satellite systems in Europe and beyond.
In a press release, Suvanam said that OrbitCloud represents a fundamental shift in how satellite infrastructure delivers intelligence. By combining direct-to-device connectivity with orbital AI inference, it is creating a space-based edge computing network that puts real-time intelligence directly into the hands of operators, without relying on ground infrastructure.
Under an agreement announced earlier this year, ReOrbit is also collaborating with Google Cloud on secure data transmission and processing in space.
