The teaser image showcases the front-end design of the new vehicle, with a more upright and boxy stance compared to its predecessor. The most prominent feature is the new X-shaped LED headlights, with two X-shaped accents on each side of the front fascia, connected to the familiar kidney grille by slim horizontal light strips. The teaser also reveals a flatter hood and pronounced shoulder lines.

The new-generation X5 will also introduce a range of technologies from BMW's Neue Klasse architecture, even for gasoline models. At the core is the "Heart of Joy" control unit, responsible for managing powertrain, braking, steering, charging, and energy recovery functions. BMW claims the system operates ten times faster than its predecessor.

BMW will offer up to 23-inch wheels for the new X5, with adaptive suspension featuring electronically controlled dampers as standard. High-spec electric and plug-in hybrid models will be equipped with Adaptive Chassis Control Professional, including dual-axle air suspension, Integral Active Steering, and active roll stabilization.

This luxury SUV will also debut BMW's latest SAE Level 2 driver assistance system for the first time, including optional highway and urban assistance packages. Features include highway entry and exit assistance, end-to-end urban environment assistance, lane change warning, side collision warning, and automatic evasive maneuvers within the lane.

The all-electric iX5 will become the first SUV to adopt BMW's sixth-generation eDrive technology, featuring an 800-volt electrical architecture and a new "cylindrical cell high-voltage battery." The iX5 60 xDrive is equipped with the largest battery among BMW's production electric vehicles, with a usable capacity of 144 kWh for the U.S. version and 141 kWh for the European version.

Power comes from a dual-motor configuration, with one motor on each axle working in conjunction with BMW's xDrive all-wheel-drive system, though specific specifications have not yet been announced. The iX5 is expected to make its debut later this year.

More details, including the complete design, interior, and powertrain specifications, will be revealed during the global premiere of the fifth-generation BMW X5 on June 30, 2026.
