en.Wedoany.com Reported - Emirates has become the world's first passenger-cargo hybrid airline to operate a modified Boeing 777-300ERSF freighter, converted from a passenger aircraft, with the first converted aircraft joining its fleet and entering commercial service. The aircraft, registered as A6-EBK, flew from Hong Kong to Dubai, carrying over 100 tons of cargo.

The modified aircraft offers a payload of 100 tons and a cargo hold volume of 811 cubic meters, representing a 25% increase in volume compared to the original factory-built Boeing 777-F freighter. With 47 pallet positions—10 more than the Boeing 777-F—it is considered an ideal choice for transporting bulky goods such as e-commerce products. This market segment currently accounts for approximately 20% of global airfreight tonnage and is expected to continue growing in the coming years. This aircraft is also the sixth new freighter introduced by Emirates SkyCargo since March 2026.

Badr Abbas, Senior Vice President of Emirates SkyCargo, stated that the entry into service of the first modified Boeing 777-300ERSF marks the next step in fleet expansion and operational flexibility. The company is optimizing assets by converting older Boeing 777-300ER passenger aircraft to meet air cargo demand and rapidly transport goods globally. He added that, together with the growing fleet of factory-built Boeing 777-F freighters, the global cargo network has expanded from over 40 destinations in February this year to 62 destinations currently, and is still growing.

As part of its growth strategy, Emirates SkyCargo plans to take delivery of five more Boeing 777-F freighters and one modified Boeing 777-300ERSF by December 2026. By 2027, it plans to introduce three more converted aircraft, bringing the company's total fleet of passenger-to-freighter converted aircraft to five by the end of 2027. The expansion of the fleet and route network strengthens the operator's role in supporting global trade, connecting new destinations to businesses and expanding connectivity between its global network spanning six continents and major production centers.
