Eiffage drives energy infrastructure for Madrid Formula 1 circuit

The Pit Building complex is planned to house team garages, technical spaces, and some operational areas during the upcoming race in September. The work covers the installation of medium and low voltage power grids, lighting, HVAC systems, telecommunications, a Building Management System (BMS), water supply and drainage, sanitary facilities, and fire protection systems.

The circuit plans to install two prefabricated substations, each equipped with two 630 kVA transformers, connected via an electrical ring network and linked to IFEMA's medium voltage grid. The infrastructure also includes medium voltage underground lines and low voltage grids to power track lighting, grandstands, and temporary facilities required during the event.

The energy system is designed to be remotely monitored from a central control station, enabling real-time monitoring of grid status, fault detection, and remote power management. This solution aims to ensure power supply continuity during the Grand Prix while facilitating operational management of the facilities after the event.

These actions are part of the expansion project for IFEMA Madrid's Halls 1 and 2. During the race, these halls will house temporary structures for team garages, logistics areas, and reception zones. After the event, the temporary structures will be dismantled, and the expanded areas will be permanently integrated into the convention center for conferences, exhibitions, and other activities.

Construction progress is monitored through weekly topographic surveys using drones equipped with high-precision positioning systems to control earthwork progress, verify construction advancements, and provide updated terrain models for work planning.

The circuit construction is carried out by a temporary joint venture of Acciona and Eiffage Construcción, while the IFEMA hall expansion is undertaken by Eiffage Construcción. Eiffage Energía Sistemas is responsible for the technical and energy facility installations for the Pit Building and the circuit's electrical infrastructure.

The project combines the temporary infrastructure required for the Grand Prix with permanent actions aimed at expanding IFEMA Madrid's capacity, ensuring that the investment continues to deliver value after the facilities return to daily operations.
