en.Wedoany.com Reported - Madhya Pradesh has added 950 MW of solar capacity to the national grid, including the commissioning of the 500 MW Neemuch Solar Park and the 450 MW Shajapur Solar Park. The state government has also signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the 440 MW Morena solar-plus-storage project (solar + Battery Energy Storage System, BESS) in Bhopal.

The Morena project combines utility-scale solar photovoltaic generation with battery storage to ensure reliable power supply. After bidding by 16 domestic and international developers, the project achieved a tariff of INR 2.70 per kWh, a record low for such projects. The batteries are charged and discharged twice daily, which the state government says improves battery productivity and reduces storage costs, making renewable energy with battery storage more economically and commercially viable.

Madhya Pradesh is also advancing the 1,920 MW Gandhi Sagar Pumped Storage Project, developed by the Greenko Group, with an estimated cost of INR 114.7 billion and a storage capacity of 10,326 MWh, making it one of the largest pumped storage projects of its kind. The project will utilize the existing Gandhi Sagar reservoir and an upper reservoir under construction at Khimla, recycling water for power generation, requiring only additional water to compensate for evaporation losses. The project will install seven 240 MW and two 120 MW reversible pump-turbine units.
