en.Wedoany.com Reported - Affordable housing developer AJC Group has been appointed to deliver a major regeneration scheme in Boscombe, a seaside suburb of Bournemouth. The Poole-based contractor has been commissioned by Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council to undertake two phases of the Hawkwood Road development, which is supported by UK government funding to drive local community regeneration and housing delivery.

The first phase of the development will involve constructing a new two-storey community centre, four retail kiosks, a new pedestrian link connecting Hawkwood Road and Christchurch Road, along with associated landscaping, drainage, and community space improvements. The second phase will deliver 68 residential apartments across three buildings, along with a new commercial space, complemented by a new public park, cycle storage, waste facilities, parking, and road and landscaping works.

BCP Council has developed a broader regeneration plan for the 9-hectare site, aiming to create a new mixed-use community in the heart of Boscombe. The development also includes ground-floor space intended for health or community services. BCP Council is working with NHS partners to explore the feasibility of local healthcare provision. Should the healthcare provider be unable to proceed, the space could accommodate other suitable community or commercial uses, ensuring the housing development can proceed immediately while keeping options open for healthcare services.

AJC Group specialises in delivering affordable housing in Dorset and Hampshire and is currently progressing several projects in the region, including the redevelopment of the former Buzz Bingo site in Bournemouth town centre for affordable housing. The company is pursuing its "500 in 5" mission, aiming to deliver 500 affordable homes across the Wessex region within five years.

David Cracklen, Director of AJC Group, said the team is very proud to have been appointed to deliver this regeneration project, noting that such developments have the potential to bring lasting change to local communities, which is exactly what the company strives to achieve through every project. Work is scheduled to officially begin in July 2026, with initial site clearance and groundworks to prepare the infrastructure required for the first phase of the development. The project is funded by the UK government.
