en.Wedoany.com Reported - Albyn Housing Society and Springfield have completed the delivery of a £2.7 million housing development in Dornoch, Scotland.

This is part of Albyn's broader plan to build 600 new affordable homes by 2030 to address housing issues in the Highlands. The local housing provider has a long-standing partnership with Springfield.

Tenants have moved into the new homes, which include one-bedroom apartments and two-, three-, and four-bedroom houses, including bungalows. Of these, eight homes are for social rent and four are for mid-market rent, as part of a larger development built by Springfield.

The homes are highly energy-efficient, using air source heat pumps for heating and hot water. Tenants will receive one-on-one guidance from Changeworks energy experts to learn how to use the heating system efficiently.

The Scottish Government provided £1.68 million in funding for the project, with the remainder financed by Albyn Housing Society.

Maureen Knight, Chief Executive of Albyn, said these new homes meet local housing needs and provide much-needed affordable rents in a remote area of the country. Tenants have responded positively to the high-quality finishes of the new homes and are gradually settling in. Albyn is committed to playing its part in addressing housing challenges in the Highlands, and the Dornoch project is just one part of its plan to build 600 new homes by 2030. The company is currently building new homes in multiple locations, including Ullapool, Conon Bridge, and Inverness, with more projects in the pipeline.

David Green, MSP for Caithness, Sutherland, and Ross, noted that Scotland is facing a housing emergency, which is even more acute in rural areas like the Highlands, where young people are often forced to leave their communities due to housing shortages, and businesses struggle to recruit for the same reason. He is encouraged by the completion of high-quality, affordable homes in Dornoch and will work with Albyn, other housing providers, and the Scottish Government during his parliamentary term to ensure the north of Scotland gets the housing it needs.

Tom Leggett, Managing Director of Springfield Partnerships, said the company has a long history of collaboration with Albyn, and the homes in Dornoch are the latest high-quality, affordable homes delivered together for those in need. He believes Scotland needs more housing, especially in the north, to support investment and retain the workforce. Such partnerships are crucial to achieving this goal.
