en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority (VFPA) in Canada is advancing a dredging plan near the Second Narrows in Burrard Inlet, which has received federal regulatory approval.

The VFPA stated that the dredging and related works aim to enhance port throughput capacity and supply chain efficiency, particularly by enabling vessels calling at Trans Mountain's Westridge Terminal to load more fully.

The dredging and supporting works are expected to commence in September. Specific projects include: dredging the edges of the existing deep-sea channel east of the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge in the Second Narrows waterway of Burrard Inlet; removing sections of decommissioned Greater Vancouver water mains that overlap with the deep-sea channel within the proposed dredging area; and installing new navigational aids west of the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge near the Columbia Container Terminal on the south shore of Burrard Inlet to support safe vessel navigation.

The VFPA noted that by slightly deepening the edges of the existing Second Narrows channel, Aframax tankers departing from Trans Mountain's Westridge Marine Terminal will be able to load their products more fully. Currently, these vessels cannot achieve full loading due to draft restrictions.
