en.Wedoany.com Reported - Jacobs has been selected by the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) to provide construction management services for two highway improvement projects in Orange County, California. These projects aim to alleviate worsening traffic congestion and enhance travel efficiency for local drivers.
The first project involves upgrading State Route 91 (SR-91) between La Palma and SR-55, with plans to add a new eastbound general-purpose lane, widen bridges, and reconstruct an interchange. According to OCTA data, SR-91 carries over 300,000 vehicles daily, serving as a vital corridor connecting Orange County to the Inland Empire. Jacobs will also manage construction activities for improvements along the I-5 corridor (from I-405 to Yale Avenue), which sees over 275,000 vehicles per day, making it one of the busiest segments in the region. Project organizers stated that the upgrades aim to improve safety, reduce travel times, and support regional economic activity.
Eva Wood, Executive Vice President at Jacobs, said: "These projects are critical to improving mobility in one of the most congested areas in the United States. Drivers in Los Angeles and Orange County lose an average of 88 hours per year due to traffic delays, and with population and employment expected to grow by more than 20% combined by 2045, the need for efficient and resilient infrastructure is more urgent than ever." The SR-91 and I-5 improvement projects are designed to align with Orange County's long-term transportation strategy, and are expected to deliver benefits such as reduced congestion, improved reliability, and modernized road infrastructure for commuters, residents, and visitors.
