en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Port Authority of Las Palmas has awarded the contract for improvement works in the operational area of the León y Castillo Docks to Lopesan Asfaltos y Construcciones, with a contract amount of €1,371,066.17 and a construction period of five months.
The León y Castillo Docks at the Port of Las Palmas are primarily used for container shipping. The dock surface is occupied and operated by Operaciones Portuarias Canarias (Opcsa) under a public land concession, valid until March 2051.
This container terminal comprises two separate areas: an operational area and a storage area. Over time and through multiple expansion projects, the terminal's area has continuously increased.
The significant growth in traffic volume requires the terminal's operational level to be prepared to meet demand. Currently, vessel tonnage and dimensions are generally increasing, necessitating new operational components for the infrastructure. Opcsa is focusing its new investments on introducing a new generation of cranes to unload containers from larger vessels. This requires the rehabilitation of part of the pavement within the infrastructure's operational area, including a 60-meter-wide strip from the dock quay wall, and the replacement of manhole covers in the same area, as part of this contract.
