en.Wedoany.com Reported - NEOM Green Hydrogen Company is approaching a key milestone for its NEOM green ammonia project in Saudi Arabia: its 4-gigawatt wind and solar complex is expected to be completed by mid-2026, marking the countdown to the start of production at the world's largest green hydrogen plant.

Located in Oxagon, the $8.4 billion facility is being built by an equal joint venture between Saudi International Power and Water Company (ACWA Power), Air Products, and NEOM. Once the renewable energy site is finished, the partners will activate the electrolyzers, with the first green ammonia output targeted for 2027. At full capacity, the plant can produce up to 600 tons of carbon-free hydrogen per day, converted into 1.2 million tons of green ammonia annually.

The project uses thyssenkrupp electrolyzers and Air Products' air separation units to supply feedstock for a renewable-powered Haber-Bosch cycle. Air Products holds an exclusive 30-year offtake agreement, with all ammonia products shipped via a dedicated terminal to transportation and industrial customers seeking low-carbon fuels.

According to NEOM, the project will avoid approximately 5 million tons of CO2 emissions annually. Green ammonia, which can serve as both a nitrogen fertilizer feedstock and a hydrogen carrier for long-distance transport, is attracting major buyers to secure long-term supply, accelerating this technology route from blueprint to large-scale deployment.

For fertilizer buyers, the project's progress signals that utility-scale renewable ammonia is rapidly moving toward production.
