en.Wedoany.com Reported - Zoom announced on Thursday the acquisition of Common Room, with the transaction price undisclosed and expected to close in the coming weeks.

Zoom acquires Common Room, shifting from video calls to AI sales

Common Room develops what the industry calls go-to-market intelligence software. This software integrates multiple disparate data sources, such as customer relationship management records and product usage data, and combines them with real-world signals to generate a per-buyer, individual-level view. Subsequently, AI agents handle tasks like research, lead generation, and crafting personalized messages.

For Zoom, the logic behind the acquisition lies in extending its reach upstream in the business process. Its existing Revenue Accelerator can already monitor sales calls and train sales representatives, while Common Room fills a missing link: before a call is made, the software can inform sales reps which accounts are active in the market, who the buyer is, and the reason for reaching out. Zoom Chief Strategy Officer Abhisht Arora stated that revenue teams will have a unified platform, with the goal of helping teams find the right people with the right information at the right time.

This acquisition aligns with Zoom's transformation model. According to GeekWire, the $25 billion company, after video market growth stalled, has embedded AI into sales, support, and collaboration over the past year, attempting to reinvent itself as an action system for work. Aikido and Adobe have also acquired AI startups in recent weeks.

Common Room was founded in 2020 by four tech veterans from Dropbox, Facebook, AWS, and Madrona, emerging from stealth in 2021 with $52 million in funding. The company was named GeekWire's Startup of the Year in 2022, with clients including Notion, Okta, Snowflake, and Anthropic. CEO Linda Lian said that joining Zoom connects Common Room's graph with the daily conversations of salespeople and the AI capable of acting on them.
