en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 3, Swedish hydrogen technology company Metacon advanced the Uppsala green hydrogen project and secured up to 111 million Swedish kronor in government funding. The green hydrogen project plans an electrolysis hydrogen production capacity of 10 megawatts, to be located at the Hovgarden waste management facility near Uppsala in east-central Sweden.

The funding comes from Sweden's Klimatklivet climate investment initiative, accounting for 55% of the green hydrogen project's total investment of 202 million Swedish kronor. Metacon plans to build an electrolytic hydrogen production unit at the Hovgarden site. Once operational, the project is expected to produce approximately 1,480 tons of green hydrogen annually, primarily supplying industrial customers and hydrogen refueling stations in central Sweden, alleviating local hydrogen supply shortages.

Metacon plans to start construction of the green hydrogen project in the second half of 2026 and complete commissioning in the first quarter of 2029. The project will also integrate with existing operations at Hovgarden, where oxygen generated from electrolysis can be used for leachate treatment, and waste heat can be recovered and utilized within the facility. Upon completion, the green hydrogen project will serve as a commercial demonstration of Metacon's electrolysis technology and integrated hydrogen production system, with subsequent execution still subject to equipment procurement, engineering construction, and commissioning progress.
