en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 3, Swedish solar developer Alight launched a 1.9MWp rooftop solar project in Hucknall, central England. The rooftop solar installation is mounted on the factory roof of aerospace component supplier ITP Aero and directly supplies power to the factory through a long-term power purchase agreement, supporting the daily electricity needs of the manufacturing facility.

The rooftop solar project adopts a "behind-the-meter" supply model, owned, operated, and maintained by Alight, with the generated electricity directly serving ITP Aero's manufacturing plant. ITP Aero's Hucknall factory produces aircraft engine components such as combustion chambers and fan outlet guide vanes. The rooftop solar project is expected to generate approximately 1,600 MWh of electricity annually, providing a portion of clean power to the factory.

Alight stated that this rooftop solar project is part of its UK commercial and industrial solar portfolio, which has exceeded 50MWp. The project financing comes from a £34 million UK behind-the-meter solar portfolio financing facility provided by SEB. Rob Stait, Managing Director of Alight's behind-the-meter solutions, said: "Expansion in the UK is a strategic priority for Alight, and this project with ITP Aero is an excellent demonstration of how our power purchase agreement and behind-the-meter model can help energy-intensive industries simultaneously reduce costs and carbon emissions."

As demand from commercial and industrial users for lower electricity costs and low-carbon procurement increases, the application of rooftop solar projects in manufacturing facilities is expected to continue expanding. Ian Williamson, UK Managing Director of ITP Aero, stated that this rooftop solar project is a significant milestone in its decarbonization journey.
