en.Wedoany.com Reported - Bombardier announced that its Global 8000 business jet has achieved its first official speed record. Since entering commercial service, the aircraft has become the fastest certified civil aircraft since the retirement of the Concorde in 2003, with a maximum operating speed of Mach 0.95.

In early June, a production Global 8000 departed from Montréal–Trudeau International Airport (YUL) and arrived at Nice-Côte d'Azur Airport (NCE) in just over six hours, allowing passengers to attend the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix. Bombardier stated that this flight marked a speed record for the first production aircraft since entering commercial service, further solidifying its position as the company's new flagship business jet. In private aviation, time is often considered the most valuable commodity, and saving 20 to 30 minutes on a direct flight from Canada to the French Riviera can be critical in deciding whether to arrive the night before or attend a meeting comfortably on the same day.

Bombardier officially delivered the first Global 8000 in December 2025, following certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Transport Canada. With a maximum operating speed of Mach 0.95 (approximately 729 miles per hour), it is currently the fastest certified civil aircraft in production. During development, a test aircraft modified from the Global 7500 briefly broke the sound barrier in controlled tests using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), but this demonstration was experimental and does not reflect the Global 8000's certified operational envelope. The Global 8000 combines Mach 0.95 speed performance with an 8,000-nautical-mile range, enabling nonstop flights such as Dubai to Houston and Singapore to Los Angeles. The cabin maintains an altitude of approximately 2,691 feet (820 meters) while cruising at 41,000 feet (12,496 meters), helping to reduce fatigue on long-haul flights. The estimated purchase price of the aircraft is around $78 million.

In the ultra-long-range business jet market, the Global 8000's main competitors are Gulfstream's G700 and G800, the latter of which has a maximum operating speed of Mach 0.935. While the speed difference may seem marginal, it can translate into several minutes of advantage on long-haul flights. The two manufacturers compete in areas such as range, cabin comfort, technology, and performance. By combining Mach 0.95 with an 8,000-nautical-mile range, the Global 8000 represents one of the more comprehensive performance offerings in current business aviation.

The Global 8000's achievements build on its predecessor, the Global 7500. Launched in 2018, the Global 7500 has accumulated over 150 speed records connecting cities around the world during its service. Bombardier evolved from the proven Global 7500 platform, introducing aerodynamic improvements and enhanced performance. For operators already familiar with the series, transitioning to the Global 8000 is relatively straightforward.

Unlike the Concorde, which relied on fuel-thirsty afterburning turbojet engines, the Global 8000 employs efficient modern turbofan engines, advanced composite structures, and fly-by-wire flight controls, cruising at just below the speed of sound to achieve lower operating costs and the flexibility to use thousands of airports worldwide. The aircraft is not a replacement for supersonic jets but a practical current solution that balances economic viability, range, and passenger comfort.
