en.Wedoany.com Reported - The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is advancing two road projects in Haridwar in preparation for the Ardh Kumbh-2027. These projects—the Spur to Haridwar and the Haridwar Bypass (Package-I)—are in their final construction stages, with physical progress nearing 92% and 77%, respectively. These works are part of a phased plan aimed at diverting through traffic away from the city core to alleviate urban congestion during the festival.

NHAI projects to ease Haridwar traffic before Ardh Kumbh

The 51-kilometer, six-lane, fully access-controlled Spur to Haridwar has been completed for approximately 46 kilometers. The project corridor extends from Halgoya Mustakam to National Highway 58 near Bhaderi Rajputana, connecting the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor to Haridwar. Once operational, vehicles from Delhi, Meerut, and Saharanpur will be able to bypass inner-city roads, reducing travel time.

The 15-kilometer Haridwar Bypass (Package-I) has completed nearly 9 kilometers of a four-lane highway. Starting from Bahadrabad and terminating near the Chandi Devi Temple on National Highway 34, this bypass aims to divert traffic away from congested urban areas, easing pressure on Har Ki Pauri, Chandi Chowk, and Shankaracharya Chowk during the festival.

NHAI is also constructing flyovers, vehicular underpasses, and service roads at intersections such as Purkazi, Phaloda, Manglaur, Bahadrabad, and Jwalapur on the Haridwar-Muzaffarnagar road to improve safety and traffic flow. The previously completed Muzaffarnagar-Nepali Farm four-lane highway is now operational, enhancing access to Haridwar, Rishikesh, and the Char Dham. Additionally, an Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) is being implemented along the spur, bypass, and Haridwar-Muzaffarnagar corridor to enable real-time monitoring and faster emergency response.

NHAI plans to complete these projects as early as possible before the Ardh Kumbh-2027, with the combined works expected to boost religious tourism and strengthen regional connectivity. These interventions are being advanced to ensure safer, faster, and more convenient travel for millions of pilgrims and daily commuters. As completion dates approach, authorities will monitor progress and traffic outcomes.
