Bangladesh expresses willingness to cooperate with the Netherlands in media and communication

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Bangladesh's Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon stated in Dhaka on July 8 that Bangladesh is interested in cooperating with the Netherlands in the fields of media and communication.

Swapon made the remarks during a meeting with Dutch Ambassador to Bangladesh Joris van Bommel at the Secretariat office.

During the meeting, Swapon said the current government has been driving qualitative changes in various sectors. He noted that in today's information technology era, new media, artificial intelligence, and digital ecosystems pose new challenges. The state has a responsibility to protect the people from misinformation and disinformation while ensuring freedom of speech. He emphasized the need to formulate specific response strategies and expressed a desire to learn about the Netherlands' approach in this regard.

Dutch Ambassador Joris van Bommel congratulated the Information Minister on his new role. He said that since Bangladesh's independence, the Netherlands and Bangladesh have maintained strong bilateral relations, and current cooperation has expanded to multiple areas including education, health, development, trade, and commerce. He expressed willingness to work with the Bangladeshi government to further strengthen this relationship. Van Bommel stressed the need to develop new frameworks to address digital challenges and briefed the minister on various activities the Netherlands is undertaking in this field.

Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba Farjana and Additional Secretary Mohammad Shah Alam attended the meeting.
