en.Wedoany.com Reported - Recently, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, delivered the 13,000 TEU dual-fuel container vessel "Jiacheng" three months ahead of schedule. This vessel is the first in the world to receive a ship cybersecurity certificate from Lloyd's Register (LR). Through this project, Hudong-Zhonghua has established a standardized ship cybersecurity implementation system, providing a replicable solution for the global shipbuilding industry to comply with cybersecurity regulations.

With the advancement of intelligent and digital transformation in the shipping industry, the increased interconnectivity of ship systems has raised the risk of cyberattacks at sea. The International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) has issued two mandatory cybersecurity regulations, UR E26 "Cyber Resilience of Ships" and UR E27 "Cyber Resilience of Onboard Systems and Equipment," which have been enforced for newbuilds since July 2024. However, the industry generally faces challenges such as a lack of mature implementation cases, divergent interpretations of standards, and the absence of integrated ship-wide protection solutions.

Hudong-Zhonghua formed a dedicated team to conduct joint research across the supply chain, achieving compliance with the new regulations ahead of schedule. The project team, centered on "comprehensive ship security protection" and guided by a defense-in-depth design approach, established a cybersecurity zone boundary protection system tailored for large container vessels. By implementing dual safeguards of "physical isolation" and "logical isolation," the system precisely separates Operational Technology (OT) systems from Information Technology (IT) systems, deploys professional firewalls at network boundaries, and enables cross-zone traffic control, tiered access restrictions, and malicious traffic interception, thereby building a secure barrier for digital operations from the design stage.
