en.Wedoany.com Reported - Spanish infrastructure group Acciona has acquired US civil engineering contractor Vertical Earth. Founded in 1997, Vertical Earth generated $217 million in revenue in 2025 and employs over 600 professionals in Georgia and Florida. Founder and CEO Brett Johnson will remain in his role and retain a 20% stake in the company.

The acquisition comes amid an active M&A cycle in the US contractor market, with growth in sectors such as water treatment, interior renovation, and infrastructure, while the investment environment for international companies entering the US construction market remains attractive.

Acciona cited the strong performance of the US infrastructure market as a key factor in its decision. The company noted that the US accounts for 20% of the global infrastructure industry, with a contract potential of $303 billion this year. Acciona also plans to leverage investment plans from the US Department of Transportation for the southeastern region.

Carlos Planelles, Managing Director of Acciona's North America infrastructure division, stated that Vertical Earth possesses deep local knowledge, proven project experience, and strong technical capabilities, complementing Acciona's global infrastructure expertise. This transaction reflects the company's confidence in the US market and enhances its ability to deliver complex, high-profile projects.

Acciona is currently involved in the $4.6 billion SR 400 Express Lanes project in Georgia, as part of a joint venture with ACS Infra and asset management firm Meridiam.
