en.Wedoany.com Reported - RCG has established a circular logistics chain for aluminum smelting by-products from southern Sweden to Germany for Befesa, transporting approximately 15,000 tons of salt slag annually by rail, and using return trips to carry REKAL salt, replacing about 840 truck journeys.
The transport chain begins in Älmhult, southern Sweden, where MOBILER containers are prepared at the IKEA terminal before being loaded with salt slag at Stena Aluminium. These aluminum production residues are then transported via RCG's single-wagon network to Befesa's facilities in Germany.
Up to 11,000 tons of salt slag are shipped annually to Befesa Salzschlacke GmbH in Hannover. Another 4,000 tons per year are transshipped via the Maxi Terminal in Hamm, ultimately reaching the Befesa plant site in Lünen.
The system utilizes return trips, with about one-third of the containers filled with REKAL salt for the journey back, reducing empty runs. RCG uses MOBILER carrier wagons and containers, which enable transfer between rail and road without the need for traditional cranes, allowing rail transport to serve plants without dedicated rail sidings.
According to RCG, this arrangement replaces approximately 600 truck journeys for salt slag transport and 240 truck journeys for REKAL salt transport annually. RCG handles about 90% of the end-to-end logistics package, including rail transport and the provision of MOBILER equipment.
