en.Wedoany.com Reported - Dia's new logistics center in Villadangos del Páramo, León, Spain, has officially commenced operations, with a total investment of nearly €60 million and a building area of 64,000 square meters, making it the company's second largest logistics platform in Spain. The center follows the standards of the new distribution model implemented at the company's warehouses in Illescas (Toledo) in 2022 and Dos Hermanas (Seville) in 2025, and is part of its logistics optimization strategy.

Ricardo Álvarez, CEO of Dia Spain, stated that the launch of the new logistics center reflects the company's current phase of growth and expansion, aiming to optimize logistics to support the store network in Castile and León and northern Spain, create jobs, and revitalize the local economy. Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, President of the Junta of Castile and León, emphasized that the center exemplifies the industrial development model promoted by the regional government, which provides businesses with high-quality, affordable industrial land with ample clean energy supply. Alejandro Barrera García, Mayor of Villadangos del Páramo, added that the center positions the municipality as a key logistics hub for the entire northwestern Iberian Peninsula.
The new warehouse features 127 loading docks (61 inbound and 66 outbound), capable of holding over 25,000 pallets and storing approximately 5,000 product categories. It is expected to handle an average of 3 million cases of goods per month this year (approximately 120,000 cases per day, equivalent to 3,000 pallets), with a daily truck traffic of around 200 vehicles (90 from suppliers and 90 heading to stores). The facility employs a dual put-to-light and voice-picking system, where employees receive picking information via voice and use the light system to determine the destination store and placement location for packages, aiming to optimize process efficiency and productivity. The logistics center has 24,000 square meters of temperature-controlled warehouse space, with temperatures ranging from -21°C to 12°C, divided into fruit, chilled, and frozen zones. The building was constructed to meet BREEAM Excellent sustainability certification requirements, featuring greenhouse gas-free refrigeration rooms, solar panels, lithium-ion forklifts, thermal comfort fan systems, waste management areas, and reserved facilities for truck charging stations. It will operate under Saica Natur's "Zero Waste" model, ensuring that over 95% of waste is reused, recycled, or converted.
This logistics center is part of Dia's "Creciendo cada día" (Growing Every Day) 2025-29 strategic plan, aimed at leading the proximity retail market through profitable growth. It is also a key component of the company's logistics optimization project in Spain, designed to establish a system capable of supplying a network of over 2,350 stores. In the Castile and León region, Dia already operates more than 200 community supermarkets, accounting for 8% of its national network, with online channel services covering 70% of local households. The company plans to open six new stores this year, two of which have already opened. Carlos Aznar, Dia's Regional Director for Castile and León, noted that the center strengthens the company's commitment to this key market, creating nearly 2,000 jobs in the region, with its activities accounting for 0.8% of the region's GDP and employment. The company also promotes self-employment through its franchise network, currently operating over 118 franchise stores in the region, relying on more than 100 local suppliers, and contributing to a total of over 5,000 direct, indirect, and induced jobs, as well as a local value chain exceeding €312 million.
