Russian supplier launches robotic laser system to produce cockpit windows for SJ-100/MC-21

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Russian aerospace materials manufacturer ONPP Tekhnologiya has put a robotic laser processing system into production to manufacture electrothermal cockpit windows for the SJ-100 and MC-21 commercial aircraft. This automated system can process conductive heating patterns on cockpit windows with complex shapes, producing transparent heating elements that prevent icing and ensure visibility during flight.

The core of this equipment is a robotic platform equipped with a laser scanning module and a solid-state ytterbium laser. The scanning system can map the three-dimensional geometry of each glass component surface without contact, after which the laser precisely removes part of the conductive coating to form a preset circuit pattern. The system's absolute processing accuracy is controlled within ±0.9 mm, with a working area of 2000 mm × 1600 mm, enabling it to handle cockpit glass components of various specifications. Compared to manual manufacturing, the automated processing process offers improvements in repeatability and consistency.

ONPP Teknologiya developed this system as part of Russia's civil aviation development plan. The system installation and commissioning were carried out by RT-Tekhpriyomka, a subsidiary of the Russian State Corporation Rostec specializing in industrial technology and quality assurance. The application of this automated laser processing technology supports the expansion of domestic production capacity for key aircraft components in the SJ-100 and MC-21 programs, which are core projects for Russia to achieve import substitution and develop a domestic commercial aircraft system.
