en.Wedoany.com Reported - Brazilian low-cost carrier GOL Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes completed its first long-haul flight on July 9, 2026. Flight G37000 departed from Rio de Janeiro-Galeão Airport (GIG) at 22:15 on July 8, 2026, bound for New York's John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK), landing at 6:53 the following morning (all times local).
This flight was operated by Spanish carrier Wamos Air, not by GOL itself. The inaugural flight was conducted by a Wamos Air Airbus A330-200 (registration EC-NBN), configured with 280 seats. Wamos Air and GOL are both part of the Abra Group, and this collaboration is based on an ACMI lease agreement, with Wamos Air providing its fleet capacity. This arrangement serves as an interim solution while GOL awaits delivery of its five new A330-900neo aircraft on order.
The A330-900neo is part of an order for seven widebody aircraft placed by the Abra Group, with deliveries expected over the next few years. The remaining two aircraft from this order will be allocated to Avianca, another airline within the group. The launch of this route marks GOL's first foray into the long-haul market, as the airline previously operated only domestic and South American routes using an all-Boeing 737 fleet.
GOL plans to operate three weekly round-trip flights between Rio de Janeiro and New York. The next long-haul destination will be Lisbon, Portugal (LIS), also operated in partnership between GOL and Wamos Air, with services commencing from September 16, 2026.
