en.Wedoany.com Reported - Norwegian contractor LNS (Leonhard Nilsen & Sønner AS) has become the first company in the world to deploy Volvo Construction Equipment's A30 electric articulated dump trucks in a customer project. Four battery-powered dump trucks have been delivered to Hafslund Kraft AS's Hemsil 3 hydropower project site in the Hallingdal region (spanning the municipalities of Hemsedal and Gol), with three more scheduled for delivery next month.

Volvo CE stated that the A30 electric dump truck is the first mass-produced electric articulated dump truck in its size class. These units will be used in the construction of the Hemsil 3 project, which includes the excavation of a tunnel approximately 20 kilometers long. The project is scheduled for completion in 2029 and is expected to increase annual power generation by approximately 110 GWh. Hafslund Kraft is adopting electric construction equipment in the project to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Hafslund Kraft Project Manager Lars Oust stated that Hafslund places a high priority on environmental protection and adopts a forward-looking approach to the electrification of project construction. He believes that achieving the green transition requires adopting new technologies and hopes to lead demand as a customer, making it very important for the company to be the first in the world to use electric dump trucks.

These dump trucks were transported from Volvo CE's production facility in Braås, Sweden, to the Hemsil 3 construction site in Norway, a distance of approximately 700 kilometers. LNS noted that the tunnel construction plan includes blasting cycles, which provide opportunities to charge the machines between operations.

LNS Site Project Manager Steffen Solstrand Ludvigsen stated that they are proud to deploy the first A30 electric dump trucks on the Hemsil 3 project. The blasting cycle characteristics of this project provide charging time between two operations, making the electric dump trucks particularly suitable for this work scenario.

Przemysla Wessel from LNS, one of the first operators to operate the A30 electric dump truck on a customer project, stated that it was a very special experience. The operation is smooth, comfortable, and easy to use, feeling like stepping into the future.

These machines are provided and will be supported by Volvo Maskin AS, the Norwegian dealer for Volvo CE. David Kristiansund, Operations Manager at Volvo Maskin AS, stated that LNS has been promoting electric dump trucks for many years, and seeing them put into use now is exciting. He believes that by working with forward-looking customers, Norway is leading the industry with strong demand for zero-emission solutions.
