en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 14, 2026, Honeywell Aerospace will lead a consortium to develop a compact quantum space magnetometer to advance research into Earth's magnetic field. The company has partnered with Quantum Brilliance and Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland, under an ESA-funded contract to develop, test, and deliver the magnetometer to the European Space Agency (ESA) by 2027. Honeywell Aerospace announced this on July 14.

This collaboration combines solid-state quantum sensing with space-grade engineering to deliver compact, high-performance full-vector magnetic field measurements, advancing Earth science, geophysics, and space domain awareness. The instrument aligns with ESA's Earth Observation (EO) and space science objectives, enabling more detailed observations of Earth's magnetic field while meeting stringent satellite requirements for size, weight, and power (SWaP).
The three parties will bring distinct contributions to the project. Honeywell Aerospace's engineering expertise and development work at its Brno R&D facility will be combined with Quantum Brilliance's NV-diamond technology and Jagiellonian University's advanced physics research capabilities. The system is expected to achieve higher-resolution geomagnetic mapping, improved radiation tolerance for long-duration missions, and smaller, lower-power payloads.
John Liobe, Technical Director of European Quantum Sensing Projects at Quantum Brilliance, said in a statement: "Our collaboration with Honeywell Aerospace and Quantum Brilliance is an important step in demonstrating low-SWaP quantum sensors. This project paves the way for scalable manufacturing, benefiting future Earth science and space domain awareness satellite constellations."
