en.Wedoany.com Reported - Dutch offshore company Boskalis' semi-submersible heavy transport vessel "Trustee" will make multiple round trips between Bilbao, Spain, and Teesworks, UK, over the coming months, transporting dozens of monopile foundations for Ørsted's Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm.

Each monopile foundation has an average length of 90 meters and weighs over 1,600 tons. The Trustee loads three monopile foundations in Spain each time before transporting them to the UK.
The Hornsea 3 project plans to install 197 wind turbines with a total capacity of 2.9 GW, making it the largest single offshore wind farm in the North Sea upon completion. According to Ørsted's estimates, the project will supply green electricity to over 3.3 million UK households once operational. Located approximately 160 kilometers off the coast of Yorkshire, the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
According to Boskalis' vessel data, the Trustee has an overall length of 216.79 meters, a beam of 44.50 meters, a cargo deck length of 130 meters, and a deadweight tonnage of 54,000 tons. This transport operation is a critical part of the complex supply chain for the Hornsea 3 project. The first batch of monopile foundations has already been shipped from Bilbao to the Port of Teesworks, and offshore installation work commenced in the first quarter of 2026. Cadeler's wind farm installation vessel "Wind Ally" is responsible for the offshore installation of the monopile foundations.
