HD Hyundai Heavy Industries recently conducted sea trials for South Korea's first ammonia dual-fuel propulsion vessel, during which operational data of the ship's fuel supply system and engine were obtained. This data will provide a technical foundation for KR to develop future domestic guidelines for eco-friendly ship operations and support broader maritime decarbonization efforts.

A spokesperson for HD Hyundai stated that, leveraging the group's R&D capabilities and on-site technical expertise, the company has made substantial progress in advancing the application of ammonia as a marine fuel, contributing to a sustainable maritime ecosystem and enhancing the competitiveness of South Korea's shipbuilding industry.

Kim Daeheon, Executive Vice President of KR's R&D Division, noted that the close cooperation between KR and HD Hyundai has laid the technical groundwork for introducing ammonia-fueled ships in South Korea. Both parties will continue to jointly advance national projects and establish technical standards aligned with the era of green shipping corridors.
