en.Wedoany.com Reported - The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has expanded the approval list for Swift Fuels' 100R unleaded aviation gasoline, adding more than 1,200 engine models and 1,600 airframe models through an update to the fuel's Supplemental Type Certificate (STC).

FAA expands approval list for Swift Fuels' 100R unleaded aviation gasoline

Swift Fuels announced Tuesday that the expanded Approved Model List (AML) covers engines from over 80 manufacturers, including approximately 395 Lycoming models, 195 Continental models, 95 Curtiss-Wright models, and 95 Pratt & Whitney models. The airframe expansion covers more than 1,600 aircraft models, including about 118 Cessna aircraft, 101 Beechcraft models, 98 Piper aircraft, as well as models from manufacturers such as Mooney, Grumman, Stinson, WACO, and Fairchild.

These expanded approvals mark another step forward in the FAA's efforts to support the industry's goal of phasing out leaded 100LL aviation gasoline by the end of this decade. The newly approved aircraft account for approximately 56% of current U.S. 100LL aviation gasoline consumption and are part of the first phase of Swift Fuels' certification program. The company expects to obtain additional approvals for higher-performance engine and airframe combinations in the second and third phases, expected by 2028. 100R is currently the only commercially available 100-octane unleaded aviation gasoline that is both applicable to qualified aircraft under an FAA-approved STC and compliant with ASTM International D8603 production specifications.

Pilots must obtain Swift Fuels' STC before using 100R in qualified aircraft. Owners who previously purchased the company's UL94 STC will automatically receive the 100R STC through the "Forever STC" program at no additional cost. 100R has been commercially available at five U.S. airports and five European airports for nearly two years, with distribution channels expanding. The initial transition from UL94 to 100R at participating airports is expected to begin this summer, covering 29 states, including California, Colorado, Arizona, Florida, Minnesota, Utah, and Wisconsin. International supply has also expanded to airports in Canada, Australia, Germany, France, Austria, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.

Swift Fuels stated that it continues to work with the FAA and engine manufacturers to certify the remaining high-performance piston fleet, with additional approvals expected between 2027 and early 2028. The FAA first approved Swift's initial 100R STC in September 2024.
