en.Wedoany.com Reported - Entergy and multiple companies within the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI Group) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to develop a roadmap for reducing overall costs by 50% in the near term. The carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects covered by this MOU will benefit Entergy's power plants, supporting its customers' goals for reliable, affordable, and low-carbon energy.

Under the MOU, Entergy and MHI Group will become among the early industry leaders in the deployment and commercialization of integrated gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC) and CCS technologies. The parties will leverage their respective expertise to jointly promote the adoption of CCS technology, helping to decarbonize energy and reduce long-term costs for the broader energy industry.

Entergy is uniquely positioned to advance carbon dioxide storage projects. Its operating areas are located near the largest existing CO2 pipeline network in the United States, and the subsurface geological conditions within its jurisdictions are among the most suitable in the U.S. for safely and permanently storing captured CO2 deep underground.

MHI Group's integrated CCS solution includes the M501JAC gas turbine from Mitsubishi Power Americas and carbon capture technology from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America (MHIA). This solution aims to provide a comprehensive, standardized approach to improve project economics. As a leading supplier within the same corporate group offering both gas turbines and carbon capture technology, MHI Group holds a unique advantage. This MOU builds on the long-standing collaboration between Entergy and Mitsubishi Power Americas, which previously worked together to expand GTCC projects and pave the way for carbon capture technology advancements.

Kimberly Cook-Nelson, Chief Operating Officer of Entergy, stated that Entergy is customer-focused, and that scale, strong partnerships, and standardization are key to success, with the company committed to providing reliable, affordable, and clean electricity to its customers. Bill Newsom, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Power Americas, noted that meaningful decarbonization requires breakthrough technologies and strong partnerships, and that this collaboration aims to create a replicable model to accelerate the commercialization of integrated gas turbine and CCS solutions while supporting energy reliability and economic growth. Yusuke Yoshida, Executive Vice President of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America and President of the Engineering Systems Division, stated that MHI's carbon capture technology is proven, scalable, and offers the economics needed to meet the demand for clean, reliable power, and that the partnership with Entergy will accelerate the delivery of commercializable decarbonization solutions to customers in the Americas.
