en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 16, CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., in collaboration with China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd., signed a contract with Greece's Erasmus Shipinvest Group for the construction of 2+2 1,900 TEU feeder container ships.

Su Zhongyi, Chairman and President of Erasmus Shipinvest Group, and Weng Hongbing, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and General Manager of Huangpu Wenchong, jointly attended the signing ceremony. This marks the third newbuilding order placed by the two parties in 2026 and a key project following the signing of a comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement at the end of June.

On June 29, Huangpu Wenchong and Erasmus Shipping reached a comprehensive strategic cooperation, agreeing to deep collaboration in areas such as new ship construction and ship repair, establishing a full-scale long-term cooperation system. The new order for 1,900 TEU container ships is a substantive step in implementing the "integrated shipbuilding and repair" layout, helping to create a model of mutually beneficial cooperation between Chinese and foreign ship enterprises.

Since the start of cooperation in April this year, Erasmus Shipping has continuously increased its orders with Huangpu Wenchong, steadily expanding the scale of collaboration. On April 2, the two parties cooperated for the first time, finalizing an order for 2+2 1,800 TEU container ships; on June 3, Erasmus Shipping, together with China United Lines, placed another order for 2+2 1,900 TEU container ships; combined with this latest order of 2+2 vessels, the total order volume between the two parties has reached 6+6 ships, securing the construction demand for multiple batches of feeder container ships.

The vessels signed in this contract are from Huangpu Wenchong's independently developed "Honghu" series of premium feeder container ships. This ship type has been validated by the market over the long term, with outstanding comprehensive energy-saving and operational advantages. To date, the Honghu series container ships have delivered a total of 30 vessels, with an order backlog of 44 ships, making it a benchmark product in China's domestic feeder ship market.

After delivery, these vessels will accelerate the fleet renewal and green, low-carbon transformation of Erasmus Shipping, helping the company deepen its presence in the global feeder container segment, expand its modern and environmentally friendly fleet, and provide efficient and stable cross-border shipping services to global cargo owners.

Headquartered in Athens, Greece, Erasmus Shipping is an international comprehensive shipping enterprise. Its business covers all categories of vessels, including dry bulk carriers, feeder container ships, multi-purpose vessels, LPG carriers, and oil tankers. The company operates a fleet of over 30 vessels, including Panamax, Kamsarmax, and Post-Panamax bulk carriers, as well as liquefied gas carriers and feeder container ships. With a well-established global operational network, it holds significant industry influence in the overseas shipping market.

Previously, Erasmus Shipping preferred Japanese shipyards, but this year it has comprehensively adjusted its shipbuilding procurement strategy, transferring a large number of newbuilding orders to Chinese shipyards. In addition to its cooperation with Huangpu Wenchong, Erasmus Shipping has also signed contracts with Hantong Ship Heavy Industry and Sanfu Ship Engineering for the construction of bulk carriers and container ships. Industry analysts point out that Japanese shipyards generally have delivery slots scheduled up to 2030, leading to tight delivery schedules, while Chinese shipyards continue to demonstrate comprehensive advantages in manufacturing costs, construction quality, on-time delivery, and green ship type development, making them the preferred choice for overseas shipowners.

Huangpu Wenchong stated that the company will continue to pursue an innovation-driven development path, focusing on the green, intelligent, and high-end upgrading of ships, strengthening independent ship type development and lean construction capabilities, and building a globally competitive ship research, development, and construction base. In the future, the shipyard will continue to expand its global high-quality shipping customer base, deepen collaboration along the Chinese and international industrial chains, and work with global shipowners to jointly promote the green, high-quality, and sustainable development of the international shipping industry.
