en.Wedoany.com Reported - According to a source familiar with the matter who spoke to CNBC reporter Kate Rooney, AI company Anthropic is in very preliminary discussions with Meta regarding the lease of artificial intelligence computing capacity. Shares of the social media giant rebounded from their session lows on Friday following a report in The New York Times that the potential deal could be worth around $10 billion.

The talks come weeks after Anthropic announced a similar agreement with Elon Musk's SpaceX, which will utilize computing power from its Colossus 1 data center to increase paid user capacity. This move indicates that Anthropic, as one of the leading AI labs, is still securing major commitments with other companies to obtain artificial intelligence chips manufactured by Nvidia.

Securing sufficient AI chips remains a major challenge for companies like Anthropic. The company has already imposed usage limits on its most advanced models, such as Fable. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated in May that the company is considering entering the cloud computing business to demonstrate to investors that it can profit from AI investments, rather than just improving existing operations. Meta's capital expenditures in 2026 could reach as high as $145 billion, including investments in AI infrastructure.

CNBC has confirmed that Dave Brown, a former long-time senior executive at Amazon Web Services, will join Meta. Zuckerberg mentioned in October last year that companies often ask Meta if it has spare computing capacity, and they are willing to lease it at a price higher than what Meta paid to acquire it.
