China Beixin Waterproofing Launches Waterproofing Solutions for Extreme Conditions in Water Conservancy and Hydropower Projects

en.Wedoany.com Reported - China Beixin Waterproofing has launched a full-cycle waterproofing solution for water conservancy and hydropower projects, offering customized products and services for extreme working conditions such as high water pressure, severe temperature differences, complex geology, and long-term durability.

The waterproofing challenges faced by water conservancy and hydropower projects far exceed those of ordinary buildings. Dams and tunnels are subjected to water pressures of tens of meters for extended periods. In high-altitude areas, the diurnal temperature difference exceeds 20 degrees Celsius, and winter lows can reach minus 30 to 40 degrees Celsius. Combined with complex geological conditions such as fractured rock layers and karst caves, as well as a design life requirement of up to 100 years, these factors impose extremely high demands on the impermeability, freeze-thaw resistance, corrosion resistance, and construction convenience of waterproofing materials.

Leveraging its national-level research institute and the full industry chain resources of a central state-owned enterprise, Beixin Waterproofing has developed four core application solutions to address the aforementioned pain points. For the reservoir basin of pumped storage power stations, a composite system of PVC or TPO geomembrane combined with filament geotextile is adopted, featuring high elongation at break and excellent resistance to deformation and puncture. For dam overflow surfaces and concrete joints, materials such as single-component polyurea waterproof coating are used to form a protective layer without overlapping joints. In long-distance water diversion tunnels, a sealing system of customized rubber waterstops and water-swellable sealing strips, capable of withstanding high water pressures exceeding 20 MPa, is provided. For ancillary buildings of hydropower stations, super SBS modified asphalt membranes, PVC membranes, and integrated waterproofing and decorative coatings are offered to cope with large temperature differences and intense sunlight exposure.

These solutions have been applied in multiple key projects both domestically and internationally. At the Nam Ngum 3 Hydropower Station in Laos, a composite anti-seepage system of 3.5mm thick PVC geomembrane and 700g/m² geotextile was used during the construction of the 85-meter-high dam body. In the Central Yunnan Water Diversion Project, customized hydraulic rubber waterstops and water-swellable sealing strips were used along the entire 661.07-kilometer route. At the Zipingpu Water Control Project in western Sichuan, 1.2mm thick PVC waterproofing membrane passed over 12,000 hours of artificial climate aging tests, withstood over 672 hours at 100 degrees Celsius, maintained good flexibility at minus 35 degrees Celsius, and achieved a B1 fire rating and a wind uplift resistance rating of ≥150 PSF.

As a central state-owned enterprise brand in the waterproofing industry, Beixin Waterproofing stated that its core products can improve installation efficiency by 30%, significantly extend maintenance cycles, and reduce full life cycle operation and maintenance costs by 15% to 20% compared to traditional materials. The company said it will continue to deepen its presence in the water conservancy and hydropower field, promoting the implementation of more innovative technologies and scenarios.
