en.Wedoany.com Reported - Intellian Technologies, a South Korean satellite communication solutions provider, has launched a new product for the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), adding a compact terminal to its existing medium- and high-speed communication products, forming an Iridium Certus-based GMDSS product line covering different vessel sizes and navigation environments.
Intellian announced on the 20th the launch of the ultra-compact terminal C100M GMDSS, based on the Iridium Certus 100 service. This product complements the existing C200M and C700 terminals, thereby establishing a full-grade GMDSS product portfolio based on Iridium Certus.
The C100M GMDSS is primarily aimed at small vessels and cost-conscious customers. While the existing C200M and C700 correspond to medium- and high-speed communication services, the C100M targets vessels with relatively lower communication capacity requirements. Ship operators can select the appropriate product based on their navigation environment and communication needs.

The product is designed to reuse existing cables already installed on the vessel, regardless of the manufacturer. Typically, replacing GMDSS equipment requires simultaneously replacing the cables connecting the antenna on the vessel's mast to the bridge. Reusing existing cables can shorten installation time and reduce costs. The maximum connection distance between the antenna and the terminal is 500 meters.
The C100M GMDSS has obtained certification under the European Union (EU) Marine Equipment Directive (MED) and the UK Marine Equipment Regulations (MER), meeting the mandatory GMDSS equipment requirements applicable to vessels registered in the EU and the UK.
The product features one-touch distress alerting, safety voice calls, and Maritime Safety Information (MSI) reception. Through a 7-inch touchscreen, communication with Rescue Coordination Centers (RCC) is possible in emergency situations. Existing C200M and C700 users do not need to replace the entire equipment; they can comply with the latest regulatory requirements by adding an expansion kit.
Sung Sang-yeop, CEO of Intellian Technologies, stated that the launch of the C100M GMDSS allows the company to build an Iridium GMDSS product line tailored to vessel size and navigation environment, which will reduce the physical limitations and cost burdens during equipment replacement and provide a stable maritime communication environment.
