en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 20, Northwest A&F University officially signed an agreement with Shaanxi Agricultural Development Group to transfer the variety rights of the new wheat variety "Xinong 1155" for 11.55 million yuan. This variety was developed over 15 years by a team led by Professor Li Xuejun from the College of Agronomy at Northwest A&F University. It is a medium-gluten wheat variety with disease resistance and high yield, and it passed national certification in July 2025.

The female parent of "Xinong 1155" is Fengdecunmai 1, and the male parent is the mutagenically bred material 03011. Since participating in national trials in 2019, this variety has exhibited characteristics such as short stalks, outstanding disease resistance, good lodging resistance and uniformity, large populations, and high and stable yields. In tests conducted in Xinxiang County, Yancheng City, and other locations, over 600,000 spikes showed no lodging. This variety has moderate resistance to stripe rust, sharp eyespot, and Fusarium head blight. At the 32nd Yangling Agricultural High-Tech Fair, "Xinong 1155" received the "Major Achievement Certificate" for "Four New" achievements.

Professor Li Xuejun's team has been deeply engaged in wheat breeding for over 30 years, achieving breakthroughs in dwarfing breeding technology by reducing wheat plant height from 80 cm to 73-74 cm, and developing varieties such as "Xinong 1266" and "Xinong 1155." The team has also deeply integrated breeding with nutrition science, successfully breeding high-quality wheat varieties such as "Xinong 836" and "Xinong 838," which are high in amylose and rich in resistant starch.
Northwest A&F University has a profound history in wheat breeding. Several generations of breeding experts, represented by Academicians Zhao Hongzhang and Li Zhensheng, have developed a series of wheat varieties that led four of the six variety renewals in the Huang-Huai wheat region of China. As the only institution in China, the university, in collaboration with 86 laboratories from 25 countries, completed the reference genome map of common wheat, an achievement selected as one of the world's top ten scientific and technological advances in 2018. Since the "14th Five-Year Plan," Northwest A&F University has cultivated 39 nationally certified wheat varieties, with 12 new wheat varieties passing national certification in 2025 alone.
