en.Wedoany.com Reported - Luis Del Carpio, Executive President of the Private Investment Promotion Agency (ProInversión), together with Rohel Sánchez, Governor of the Arequipa Region, attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Arequipa-La Joya highway twin tunnels. This project aims to strengthen road integration in southern Peru and help consolidate the southern logistics corridor, promoting commercial exchanges with Brazil and Asian markets.
The project is expected to benefit over 1.2 million residents. It will be implemented under the "Obras por Impuestos" (Works for Taxes) mechanism, with a total investment of 217 million soles. Funding comes from the Arequipa Regional Government, the Urbi Proyectos consortium, Yura S.A., Cerro Verde Mining Company (minera Cerro Verde), and Interbank.
During the ceremony, Luis Del Carpio emphasized that this tunnel is a key link in consolidating integration with Brazil and opening up more opportunities for trade with Asia. The modern twin tunnels, spanning 1.5 kilometers, are equipped with ventilation, drainage, lighting, safety, and state-of-the-art signage systems, aimed at improving traffic safety, efficiency, and continuity between Arequipa and La Joya.

The project will reduce travel times, improve the flow of people and goods, and boost regional economic vitality during construction by creating job opportunities. Luis Del Carpio stated that Arequipa remains one of the leading regions in project execution under the "Obras por Impuestos" mechanism, a model that is steadily consolidating as one of the main alternatives to accelerate the reduction of gaps in infrastructure and public services.
