Adani Power Signs 25-Year 1,600 MW Power Supply Agreement with Maharashtra MSEDCL
en.Wedoany.com Reported - Adani Power has signed a 25-year power supply agreement with the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL). Under the Design, Build, Finance, Own & Operate (DBFOO) model, the company will supply 1,600 MW of power on a long-term basis from two proposed units of 800 MW each. The agreement covers meeting Maharashtra's distribution needs with baseload thermal power, defining the long-term commercial framework and operational responsibilities under the DBFOO model.
The coal supply for the proposed power plant has been allocated under the Government of India's SHAKTI policy, ensuring the necessary fuel security for sustained operations. The allocation under this policy framework supports project economics and facilitates planned commissioning and fuel supply scheduling. Both parties view this as a key enabler for long-term power delivery.
This arrangement aims to support the state power utility's capacity planning and provide a stable source of thermal power over the contract period. Adani Power's execution under the DBFOO structure will encompass design, construction, financing, and operational responsibilities, aligning asset ownership with operational control. The project plans to employ ultra-supercritical thermal power technology, designed to deliver efficient baseload electricity.
The 25-year contract term establishes a long-term horizon for power procurement and tariff stability, seen as part of broader efforts to secure the state's long-term generation capacity. Both parties view this agreement as a strategic supply partnership to address growing power demand and operational certainty. The contract will become effective upon obtaining relevant regulatory approvals and meeting customary conditions.
Project supporters indicate that the project is expected to enhance grid reliability, meeting power demand during both peak and off-peak hours, while aligning with national energy security and supply planning goals. The specific implementation timeline will depend on regulatory approval progress and standard project milestones. This collaboration is seen as a significant step in strengthening the state's power infrastructure.
